Books I Have Read in 2010

Dracula - Bram Stoker
The Invisible Man - H G Wells
War of The Worlds - H G Wells
The Time Machine - H G Wells
Casino Royale - Ian Fleming
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
Live and Let Die - Ian Fleming
The Island of Dr Moreau - H G Wells
The Great Crash 1929 - John Kenneth Galbraith
The Sleeper Awakes - H G Wells
The Portrait of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

Aside from Dracula and the two James Bond books, every book was read on my phone, downloaded for free from the public domain -- thus the heavy weighting towards the turn of the century. I just couldn't get enough of the H G Wells books, obviously.

  1. Dorian Gray is a top 10 book for me. I adore it.
and I actually have never cracked open Wells...I guess I have to now. Any suggestions which to start with?

  2. It's hard to choose between the Invisible Man and War of the Worlds.

War of the Worlds is great because it's a grand sci-fi thriller written over a hundred years ago. It's a good story, but you have to be able to appreciate that you are looking at the scientific world through 19th-century eyes. I found that aspect particularly interesting.

The Invisible Man is on a much smaller scale, and benefits from a closer study of the psyche of one individual as he tries to cope with his new invisibility. I read this one first and it was so compelling that I had to read the rest.

I recommend The Invisible Man, but they're all so short that you shouldn't limit yourself to just one. Read both.
