Aside from Dracula and the two James Bond books, every book was read on my phone, downloaded for free from the public domain -- thus the heavy weighting towards the turn of the century. I just couldn't get enough of the H G Wells books, obviously.

Dorian Gray is a top 10 book for me. I adore it.

It's hard to choose between the Invisible Man and War of the Worlds.
ReplyDeleteWar of the Worlds is great because it's a grand sci-fi thriller written over a hundred years ago. It's a good story, but you have to be able to appreciate that you are looking at the scientific world through 19th-century eyes. I found that aspect particularly interesting.
The Invisible Man is on a much smaller scale, and benefits from a closer study of the psyche of one individual as he tries to cope with his new invisibility. I read this one first and it was so compelling that I had to read the rest.
I recommend The Invisible Man, but they're all so short that you shouldn't limit yourself to just one. Read both.
I reread Dorian in 2010 as well. Great read.
