Heaving Boulders into an Alpine Ocean

Instead of going home from Calaway Park, we continued our Canada Day festivities with an impromptu trip to Allan's Bill Pond on the Elbow River in Kanaskis Country -- essentially 2nd-order tag-alongs. We tagged along with sister/brother-in-law J & L, who were in turn tagging along with their close friends, who had planned a family gathering there.

Katie enjoyed throwing pebbles in the water and mauling baby cousin A. I should note that one of the very few words that Katie will attempt with open lips is A's name (it comes out as "Da-ya"). That is quite an honour, since there are about 3 other words on the list: "Dada", "Mum", "Dot" (Scott), "Dat" (all-purpose).

The boys were happy throwing pebbles into the pond until we crested the hill and discovered the Elbow River beyond and some thrillingly large rocks that needed attention. Scott had never seen rapids and confused them for the waves of the ocean. He said, "watch me throw this rock in that ocean!"

The boys kept finding rocks that were beyond their ability, so they instead they acted as spotters for us dads, who were obliged to heave a considerable number of semi-boulders into the rapids. Honestly, boys never grow out of that boyhood fascination with throwing rocks into water -- the rocks just get bigger.
