Goodbye Truck, Welcome Wagon

We put the truck up for sale tonight, with some sadness. Hopefully, it will sell quickly and we won't have to draw out our goodbyes. We finally peeled off all the lettering from the side (man was there a lot of it!) and it looks so fresh and clean. Oh, the memories.

The Welcome Wagon lady came to visit today while I was at school. R reported that she was somewhat forceful, but still quite pleasant. Our previous experience with the Welcome Wagon was not so good. A lady showed up at our house late one evening, nearly a year after we'd moved in, and gave us a bunch of expired coupons and an outdated Sears catalogue. When I didn't want to give her our phone number, she balked and said, "If you don't fill out the form, I don't get paid!" I thought it was all a little sketchy, and it made me feel exploited more than it made me feel welcome.

Cross your fingers that this truck sells quickly. The out-of-province inspection we did is only good for 14 days.

Kind of sad to see the era of the truck coming to an end. It served you well. (It does look so pristine without its lettering.)

Good luck !

I was going to ask you if you sold the truck yet. If I lived in Calgary and needed a moving truck I'd sure choose yours.

Originally, the welcome wagon referred to the practice of rural residents coming over and welcoming their new neighbours, bringing a basket of food or other useful items. As this natural trend faded out, a corporate version replaced it.

Today, the Welcome Wagon company obtains address information about new move-ins and sends a rep over to give them coupons and samples from local merchants.

I can relate---sob, sob, sob...when we sold our truck and trailer that I loved and had it for longer than you have had your truck, and we had lots more fun in them!Good luck! Like you, we had our truck and trailer in tip-top shape and the first looker for the trailer took it and the first looker for the truck took it - they both got a steal, as we added in extras that we no longer needed. Hope you have the same good luck ---add one of Rachelle's delicous sandwiches in it for a quicker sale!
