Mooney's Rooney

What do you do with a pregnancy blog once the pregnancy is over?

You just keep writing.

You also start branching out into different topics. Since we plan to move from Ottawa to Calgary at the end of the summer, it is possible that Scott will not see the city of his birth. We have loved our 5 years in Ottawa so much, we have decided to use the next 3 months to capture all of our favourite parts of the city in this record.

Before getting too far afield, we have some photographs from our living room. The first is me filing Scott's fingernails last night. He was born with a decent set of claws, and he has shown a tendency to scratch himself with them. Filing the nail on the pinky finger of a newborn baby is delicate work. Thankfully, Scott behaved himself very well for his manicure.

Today we had a visitor in our living room who was very keen to hold baby Scott. Ariadna, who is one of R's vocal students, came by with her mom to visit little Scotty and bring him a present. In fact, they brought MANY presents. Apparently, Ariadna and her mom have slowly been collecting various baby items throughout the pregnancy -- amassing a cache so large, it required an enormous Scooby-Doo gift bag. She likes to read our postings here, so I promised to put up a photo of her holding the baby.

As grand as our living room is, R is supposed to get outside and go for walks so that she can get some exercise. For the first two days, I was satisfied to walk through our condo group; however, these quaint pathways will only do for so long, so I have been pushing for more scenic routes like Dows Lake (yesterday). This evening we went down the street to Mooney's Bay.

The Rideau River runs northward through Ottawa and empties into the Ottawa River. In the SW part of town, the Rideau River widens into Mooney's Bay before continuing down Hog's Back Falls. The Rideau Canal begins at Mooney's Bay and runs a different route downtown before reaching the Ottawa River. Our first apartment in Ottawa sat next to the locks of the canal and overlooked the bay from the 16th floor. We had no room for kitchenware, but the views were fantastic. Our old building is visible in the background in this picture -- it's the one one the far right, with the radio antenna on top.

It's hard to tell which is better: the scenery, or names like "Mooney's Bay" and "Hog's Back Falls".

OH MY!! I thought you'd photoshop me out of the picture and just leave Ariadna with Rachelle and your little Scott!! Needless to say, Ariadna was thrilled to see herself posted here (while I was mortified to be included.) Rachelle- not to worry - you look great as always! I have some very cute pictures of you - I'll email them to you shortly!
