Mr. Hyde

Our quiet little baby seems to have woken up. Today he was much more alert. Unfortunately, he spent most of his waking hours fussing. It's hard to tell if he has gas, or if he has taken some sort of grumpy potion. Today we broke out the baby swing and the soother. The swing worked early on, but sometimes it just wasn't enough. When we finally tore the soother out of the package and gave it to him, he immediately stopped crying and sucked quietly for 45 minutes.

Thank goodness for that soother.

We suspect that he's had some gas or other digestive discomfort, because we've tried nearly everything else. I tried to listen a few times for any "Dunstan Baby Language" hints, but all I heard was whimpering, following by crying, followed by screaming. I'll start listening closely in the coming days to see if I can hear any of the tell-tale signals, but I am not optimistic.

Thank goodness for that soother.

Took me a minute to figure out what a soother was.

Love the binky. I have yet to understand why there are certain people who refuse to give their kids a binky... there are some real anti binky people out there. They are pretty entertaining to listen to.

Reese, my mom and I all tried to get Abby to take a binky when she was a babe and a bottle. She would have nothing to do with it. Poor Reese.

Izzard loved her binky and Eman has just learned out to find it and stick it in his mouth himself.

None of you were intersted in the soother. C found his thumb when he was about a month old and you, D, liked to suck on your two middle fingers. You gave it up after a couple of years.
"a"squared--you are now bilingual--Canadian-soother
US-binky.

Yikes! And I'm the "certain people who refuse to give their kids a binky." And it seems we did okay. Sure, we had some cross kids now and then, but I did not have to ween any of them OFF THE BINKY on their way to Kindergarten. Maybe some kids need to "SUCK" more....

K of Idaho has a great way to wean her kids off the soother. When she decides it is time she cuts a little piece out of the nipple end. The next day she cuts a little more. After a few days it does not feel so smooth and good in their mouths and they don't like it in their mouths. She then has them throw it away in the garbage and wave bye-bye to it. She is 4 for 4 so far in effectiveness.

Out of both my girls, Abby had those kind of days too. "crabby abby" came to be. I found that laying them on your lap (while you are sitting) and bring their legs back and forth, in and out soothed there tummies a little bit. It gets things moving in the intestines (or something like that). It's kind of like when you do the bicycle exercise, but you are doing it to the baby's legs. Heh, does that make sense? I sure hope so! :)

Oprah had a lady dubbed as the "baby whisperer" or something like that on her show one time. This lady has a book out that describes what cries mean what.
